Waterford Drugs Outreach Project City and County
We provide a community based service to people engaging in or in recovery from high risk substance misuse.
We provide a service to adults and young people over 13 years of age. We are a community-based service working within a community development model, covering Waterford City and County.
What we Offer
Assessment: This involves the outreach worker meeting with you and having a focused discussion based on a document called an initial assessment. This is a form that mainly looks at a person’s substance misuse history and future aims/goals regarding their drug/alcohol use.
Harm Reduction; Help you to reduce the risks you may be taking while using drugs. The provision of needle exchange; supporting the local methadone clinics, and one to one sessions which look at reducing harm and education concerning current drug use.
Relapse prevention: If you are off substances but perhaps struggling with this, the outreach worker will attempt to assist you in developing a plan that will help you to stay clean and sober.
Referral: The Outreach Service will inform you about relevant support services in the local area and refer you where this is desired/required. The outreach worker will refer you to the most appropriate service which may include continuing work with the outreach service. Possible treatment options include:
Methadone/Suboxone maintenance treatment if dependent on opioids.
Detoxification and/or treatment in residential rehabilitation centres.
