Tusla Child & Family Agency – Alternative Care: Foster Care, Children in Care and Aftercare
Where a child or young person’s health, development or wellbeing cannot be ensured in the home, Tusla provides alternative care.
Depending on the child’s needs there are a number of possible care options. Tusla makes every effort to place children and young people within their extended family, relative foster care, to in a general foster care placement. Where foster care is not suitable a child or young person is placed in residential care. If a child has been in care they are entitled to an aftercare service until they are 21 years of age. The types of support they will receive depend on the length of time in care.
All access to this service is through the Child and Family Agency in Waterford, contact Joanne Ryan, Principal Social Worker, Alternative Care.
